Assistant District Attorney Positions

The Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office is a busy prosecutor's office just north of the Albany capital and is a county within the Capital District, serving nearly two hundred and ten thousand people in 19 towns and two cities.   Led by District Attorney James A. Murphy, III, the office works closely with the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors, community based not for profits, Skidmore College and the Saratoga County community.  The District Attorney’s Office enjoys an excellent working relationship with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department, the New York State Police, and the 12 other local law enforcement agencies in Saratoga County.

Each year over one hundred graduates of law schools apply to the office for positions.  District Attorney Murphy has committed his legal career to public service having served in the District Attorney’s office for twenty years, first as an assistant District Attorney under former District Attorney David A. Wait and then as District Attorney, first elected in 1997, then subsequently in 2001 and 2005.  DA Murphy considers it an honor to serve as the chief law enforcement officer of the county.  Applicants should demonstrate a commitment and duty to work as a public servant, consider it an honor to represent the People of the State of New York and exercise judicious discretion in the evaluation of criminal cases and investigations.  The position of assistant district attorney includes responsibilities in town and village courts, county court and presentations before the grand jury.  All assistant district attorneys are required to live within the county of Saratoga.
